Family Pentecost Novena

Day 9 – Saturday, May 23

Proclamation: The Apostles and first disciples were eye-witnesses of all that Jesus said and did. And they were there on Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came. They wrote down what they saw and heard. I can read this exciting story in the Bible for myself and the Holy Spirit will help me to be like an eye-witness too.

Scripture: John 21:24-25 excerpt from the Gospel Reading of today’s Mass

This is from the end of St. John’s Gospel. We have been reading this Gospel all through the Easter Season. Here John is speaking of himself as an eye-witness to all that Jesus said and did.

“It is this disciple who testifies to these things and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true. There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.”

Praise and Prayer: “The disciples devoted themselves with one accord to prayer with the women, and Mary the Mother of Jesus, and his brethren, alleluia.” Entrance antiphon from today’s Mass       

Father in Heaven, bring me to the Upper Room with Mother Mary and the Apostles and prepare my heart. I wait with joy for tomorrow’s great celebration of Pentecost.

Called to Greatness: Read the above Scripture one more time. Did you hear what St. John said? He said that the world is not big enough to hold all the stories about Jesus! There is no end to the Good News! You can be like St. John and tell others about Jesus. You can tell them stories from the Gospels and can tell them stories about what Jesus has done for you!
