Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.

The Sacrament of New Life in Christ
Baptism is the beginning of life in Christ and the doorway into the family of God. Through the gift of water and the Holy Spirit, we are freed from original sin, reborn as beloved sons and daughters of the Father, and incorporated into the Body of Christ, the Church. Baptism is not merely a symbol or a rite of passage—it is a real encounter with Jesus Christ that leaves an indelible mark on the soul, forever uniting the baptized to Him. As St. Paul teaches, in Baptism we are buried with Christ in His death and raised with Him to new life, so that we may live no longer for ourselves, but for God (Romans 6:3–4).
From the very beginning of the Church, Baptism has been understood as necessary for salvation and essential to the Christian life. Jesus Himself proclaimed that no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being “born of water and the Spirit” (John 3:5), and He and His disciples immediately went forth baptizing. While Baptism gives the grace to believe, that faith is meant to grow and mature within the life of the Church, supported by prayer, worship, and the witness of the Christian community. Baptism, then, is not an end, but a beginning—a lifelong journey of faith, conversion, and communion with God and His people.
