LITURGY OF THE WORD
FOR CHILDREN
Opening Scripture to Our Children
Forming young hearts through the Liturgy of the Word.
Liturgy of the Word for Children (LWC) is a beautiful part of Sunday Mass designed especially for our youngest parishioners. It follows the Directory for Masses with Children (1973) and offers children a simpler, age-appropriate way to hear and reflect on God’s Word. In this setting, they can actively listen, pray, and respond in ways that connect with their own lives and experiences—helping them grow in faith while still remaining part of the larger worshiping community.
Who Can Attend and When
LWC is open to children ages 3 through 2nd grade, divided into two groups: ages 3–5 and Kindergarten–2nd Grade. It is offered during both the 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM Sunday Masses, from September 7, 2025 through Pentecost Sunday, May 24, 2026.
How It Works
After the Gloria, Fr. Ed will invite the children forward and dismiss them from the main assembly. They gather with trained leaders for their own celebration of the Word: ages 3–5 in the St. John Paul the Great Room, and Kindergarten–2nd Grade in the Bishop Povish Room. The children return to the worship space after the Presentation of the Gifts so they can participate fully in the Liturgy of the Eucharist with their families. Parents are always welcome to accompany their child, especially on those first visits, to help them feel at ease.
We look forward to welcoming your children to LWC—an opportunity for them to encounter God’s Word in a joyful, engaging, and meaningful way!
