YOUTH CATECHESIS
Partnering with Families. Preparing for Sacraments.
HELPING CHILDREN GROW IN CHRIST
Christ the King is blessed with many families and children, and we are committed to walking with parents as the primary catechists of their children. Our program is designed to equip parents with confidence by involving them in lessons, offering practical resources, and encouraging ways to bring faith into the rhythms of daily family life—beyond the classroom and Sunday Mass.
Whether children attend Catholic school, public school, or homeschool, Christ the King Catechesis provides a consistent, community-centered formation. More than sacramental preparation, it helps families establish strong connections to the parish, fostering a sense of belonging and supporting their children’s ongoing faith journey, while also building meaningful relationships within the wider parish community.

FIRST GRADE
Building the Path to the Sacraments
Discover why first grade at Christ the King is such a special year!
Children learn in small groups where they receive personal attention and support. Time in our “sacred space” helps them grow in prayer and worship, while celebrations, processions, and hands-on activities bring the faith to life. This year lays a strong foundation in salvation history, preparing your child for the joy of sacramental preparation in second grade.

SECOND GRADE
A Year of Grace and Celebration!
Second graders prepare for two beautiful sacraments—First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. They learn about God’s mercy, forgiveness, and the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Through prayer, stories, and family participation, children grow closer to Christ and experience His love in a personal way.

THIRD GRADE
Learning Salvation History
Third graders begin an exciting two-year journey through Sacred Scripture! Starting with Creation in the Book of Genesis, students discover the big picture of God’s plan of salvation and learn to claim their place in His story. Along the way, they explore the major covenants, patriarchs, and prophets, bringing the narrative to life as they create their very own Bible timelines.

FOURTH GRADE
Scripture Study—Year Two
Fourth graders dive back into Salvation History with a focus on the life of Jesus Christ and the spread of the Gospel. Students grow in their love for Scripture as they trace God’s plan woven throughout His Word. They continue building their personal Bible Timelines and spend significant time in the Gospels, exploring the events of the Paschal Mystery. This year completes the two-year Scripture study that begins in third grade.

FIFTH GRADE
Discovering the Heart of Our Faith
The goal of 5th grade is for students to experience a personal encounter with Christ as they explore the foundational doctrines of our faith proclaimed in the Nicene Creed. They begin by reflecting on what it means to believe, grow in their understanding of the Holy Trinity, and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Son of God. Throughout the year, they delve into the Paschal Mystery and more, building a strong foundation for lifelong faith.

SIXTH GRADE
The Mass and God’s Law
In 6th grade, students experience a personal encounter with Christ while exploring a deeper understanding of the Mass and the Commandments. The year begins with the Father’s desire that we partake of His Divine Nature, followed by a Bible study on John 6. Students then examine the Mass as Sacred Banquet, Sacrifice, Memorial, and Liturgy, recognizing the Eucharist as the source and summit of our faith. In the second half of the year, they focus on conscience formation through an in-depth study of the Commandments.
