Family Pentecost Novena
Day 8 – Friday, May 22
Proclamation: Jesus called St. Peter to be our first Pope and commanded him to care for all of God’s people, his “sheep”. Jesus calls me to follow him too. He sends me the Holy Spirit so that I can be a faithful disciple.
Scripture: John 21:15-17, 19b excerpt from the Gospel Reading of today’s Mass
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” He then said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. . . . And when Jesus had said this, he said to Peter, “Follow me.”
Praise and Prayer: “The Holy Spirit will teach you everything and remind you of all I told you.” Alleluia verse before the Gospel
Holy Spirit, you are the God of all wisdom and truth. How wonderful you are! I want to know more about you so that I can be a disciple of Jesus.
Worship the Lord:
I WILL FOLLOW Chris Tomlin
Called to Greatness: Read the above Scripture one more time. Did you hear what Jesus said? He said, “Follow me.” He is giving you a personal invitation to be his disciple. That sounds like the adventure of a lifetime! And Jesus will give you the Holy Spirit so that you can hear his voice and know what he wants you to do. Are you ready?
Novena Prayer: Come, Holy Spirit!
Symbols of the Holy Spirit: Cloud
In the Book of Exodus when Moses went up to the top of Mount Sinai, a cloud descended on the mountain. This showed that God was present and ready to speak to Moses.
