As the Year of Prayer to Form Missionary Disciples is drawing to a close, Bp. Boyea is encouraging all parishes to conclude the year with a Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary. Christ the King is planning to make this consecration at all Sunday Masses the weekend of Dec. 7-8.
What does it mean to make a Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary?
Fr. Michael Gaitley, the author of 33 Days to Morning Glory, describes the consecration this way:
“Marian consecration basically means giving Mary our full permission (or as much permission as we can) to complete her motherly task in us, which is to form us into other Christs. Thus, by consecrating ourselves to Mary, each of us is saying to her: Mary, I want to be a saint. I know that you also want me to be a saint and that it’s your God-given mission to form me into one. So, Mary, at this moment, on this day, I freely choose to give you my full permission to do your work in me, with your Spouse, the Holy Spirit.”
In keeping with the practice of St. Louis de Montfort, people often prepare for 33 days before making this consecration. For those wishing to do so, the preparation process will begin this Tuesday, Nov. 5.
There are many resources available to help with the preparation. Probably the best one, to begin with, is the very popular book 33 Days to Morning Glory by Fr. Michael Gaitley. As you read the book, you will also be able to watch Fr. Michael’s presentations for the program free of charge through our parish’s subscription to FORMED. (For instructions on how to sign up for FORMED, please click here.) Once you have signed in, search for “Gaitley” and then click on the “Hearts Afire” program image. The six 33 Days to Morning Glory videos are part of the Hearts Afire program.
