Year of Mercy

Pope Francis has declared that there will be the “Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy” beginning December 8th, 2015 and concluding November 20th, 2016. This year of mercy is intended to remind everyone in the Church of the love and mercy of God the Father. It encourages us to seek mercy through sincere repentance as well as to be merciful in our actions towards others, especially through corporal works of mercy. At Christ the King, we will help our parishioners to celebrate the Jubilee of Mercy through contributions of prayers, books, websites and other media that add insight or practical tips on the subject of mercy. We plan to update this page frequently throughout the year as more resources come to our attention.

Nuestra Señora de la Merced by José Vergara

This is a somewhat lesser known version of the Mother of Mercy depicting Mary intimately involved in the supplications of the children given to her by Jesus from the cross in the person of St. John. This image reminds us of of the beloved prayer, the “Salve Regina,” in many ways the universal anthem of the Church sung especially in Latin.

Parish Mission Follow Up Series

Fr. Michael Gaitley’s Divine Mercy in the Second Greatest Story Ever Told! That is the title and the theme of the parish-wide follow-up series to the Parish Mission, Jesus, the Face of the Father’s Mercy. Please join us, beginning next Sunday, February 21, 2016, as we continue our study, and reflect on how each of us—individually, as families, as a parish—might better heed the call to grow in mercy.

Each week, for 10-sessions, there will be a 25-30 minute DVD/video presentation by Fr. Gaitely in the gym between Masses. All are welcome! Feel free to just drop in. Small discussion groups will follow for those who wish to stay. Alternatively, you may prefer to reflect together as families or perhaps to form a group of friends and neighbors on your own. Whichever format you choose, take advantage of this opportunity to reflect on how God is calling you to respond to His call to learn more about and live in His mercy.

Copies of the guide (blue cover—different from the book with the same name), Divine Mercy in the Second Greatest Story Ever Told, may be ordered from Our Lady of Grace bookstore or on-line from Lighthouse Media (www.lighthousecatholicmedia.org). A limited number of guides will be available at a discounted price while our supply lasts. Contact Dick and Stephanie Giba, stgiba@comcast.net. Note that after Divine Mercy Sunday (April 3, 2016), the videos will be available as a free download from the FORMED website. Until then, join us in the gym!
